The white man came to the Germfask area in the late 1800's and early inhabitants decided on a name by taking the first letter of the last name of eight of the original settlers in 1881. John Grant, Matthew Edge, George Robinson, Thaddeus Mead, Dr. W. W. French, Ezekiel Ackley, Oscar (O.D.) Sheppard, and Hezekiah Knaggs.
